Overbite Teeth Correction With Clear Aligners: Achieve the Perfect Smile

An overbite is a common dental issue where the upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth, sometimes by a significant amount, which can cause discomfort and even lead to more serious dental problems, such as jaw pain, gum disease, or tooth decay.

Fortunately, overbite teeth can be treated with clear aligners — a revolutionary orthodontic treatment to straighten them gradually.

But how does it work, you ask? Let us explain!

General information

Clear aligners are a system that’s a popular alternative to traditional metal braces. Each aligner consists of a medical-grade plastic material, custom-made to fit your teeth. They’re nearly invisible, making them a discreet and convenient option for those who want to straighten their teeth without the visible appearance of traditional braces.

For overbite teeth or various other dental problems, clear aligners work by gradually shifting the teeth into their correct positions using a series of clear aligners. The aligners gradually reposition your teeth more comfortably than traditional braces.

There are a number of clear aligners available:

  • Invisalign
  • Clear Correct
  • SureSmiles

In addition, you can easily remove clear aligners when you want as long as they remain in place for at least 22 hours per day.

Removing clear aligners when you care for your teeth makes it easier to clean your teeth and maintain good oral hygiene.

About the process

To begin treatment with a clear aligner, your dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth using a specialized scanner. Our Sioux Falls dentist then uses these impressions to create a 3D model of your teeth that we use to design a customized treatment plan that includes a series of clear aligners specifically tailored to your individual needs.

During treatment, you’ll wear each set of aligners for a specific period of time, typically one to two weeks. As you progress through the series of aligners, your teeth will shift into the correct positions over time, eventually correcting your overbite. Treatment for an overbite can take anywhere from six to eighteen months, sometimes longer, depending on the severity of your overbite.

Benefits of clear aligners

Fortunately, when you use clear aligners for an overbite, you can still enjoy your favorite foods without worrying about damaging traditional braces because you can remove them. In addition, you can take out the aligners for special events, such as weddings or job interviews, where you may want to look your best.

Another benefit of clear aligners is that they are nearly invisible, making them a discreet option for self-conscious adults who don’t want to wear metal braces. Clear aligners are also more comfortable than traditional braces, as they do not use wires or brackets that can irritate the gums and cheeks.
